It is 'movie' themed night for October's 'Live @ The Hut' - Friday 26th. it's looking good and so are the usherettes who will be selling Popcorn, Magnums and .... JAFFAS.
You can't have a cinematic experience without a few jaffas rolling down the aisles! Mark it on your calendars. Friday, October 26th 'Live @ The Hut' takes you to the movies. Get your movie themed entertaining number together. We would love to see it! Surprise us! Please spread the word. |
AUGUST 2014
This month saw the introduction of fifteen minutes of fame. Performers relished the chance to have a fuller performance experience, featuring Pauline Clyne's poisonous posse of Maddy Parr and her spoonful of arsenic, Paddy Martin and another brilliant parody, Frankie Donaldson and Ann Webb's beautiful rendition of Under Milk Wood and Pauline's original poisonous poem and Carolyn Stuart's crew of Steve Leadbetter and his fabulous rendition of Mel Brook's 2000 year old man, Pablo and Fernanda Vega's fantastic dancing and James Cooper and Sandy Wolfenden's hilarious doctor skit. Sandy had us all in stitches with her ads for a bucket and mop. Hysterical.

JULY 2014 - YOUNG PERFORMERS' NIGHT
This month's Live @ The Hut, July 27th, was family night - to give school age children the opportunity to perform their Eisteddfod pieces in a supportive, intimate environment before they perform them in our glorious Cultural Centre in front of lots of strangers! The young performers were fantastic - from singing, to hilarious mime and sketches. The future of performance is bright. Good on ya kids!

Happy Second Birthday Live @ The Hut! What a fantastic night it was too. Big thanks to Rosie for mc'ing with flair and energy. A wonderful range of acts - songs, original slam poem from Pauline Clyne, jazz from Benita Klowss Country from Paddy - yes COUNTRY from Paddy and acoustic from Carolyn Stuart. Wonderful bush poem from Jacqui Macdonald and a glorious musical performance from Michelle Sheridan and Leia and Del Jensen. Original burlesque dance from Jess and Melinda Wolfenden - complete with feathery fans and a cool Song/Tap duet from Benita and Jess. En Canto enchanted us as always. Big congratulations to Ally Rowe, our youngest performer of the night. Great stuff. Quite simply a brilliant night! Thankyou to all those who performed and a big thankyou to those who came and supported. A final thankyou to the member of the audience who wrote in to thank Performing Arts for Live @ The Hut. Live @ The Hut - Goondiwindi's special little secret.
APRIL 2012
VIP night only last night, or that's what the small, yet excitable gathered crowd decided. Performances were top notch so it was a pity more weren't there to see it but then there was something very special about being part of the privileged few that did! Paddy Martin sang two brilliant numbers including Baker Street which was out of the box for him and warmed the crowd's souls. Benita Klowss was her sultry, sassiest best in Desperado and a fantastic rendition of the jazz song, 'That Man.' Pauline Clyne and Carolyn Stuart kept the world informed with their satirical news, Live News Live and James Cooper's original Ode To An Eel' lifted the roof. Ange Clarke and Pauline's performance of 'Waiting for Salmon' was slick and intriguing. Two lively improv sessions came courtesy of Jess Wolfenden, James, andLois. The membership drive is taking off with two new members signing up and one of them taking on the tech role for this year's panto.
This was simply a great night out. The performances testament to the talent and drive of our local performers. Bravo!

Live @ The Hut was a brilliant night out as always. This one was extra special as we farewelled our dear friend and former president, Jenny Jackson before she and Andrew move to Noosa. Lots of songs in honour of Jenny and her past performances. Thanks to performers and audience alike. See you in April.

An intimate lively night with lots of laughter. Live @ the Hut kicked off the new year with gusto - poetry, songs, news and improv. Great night for all.
Christmas 2011 Live @ the Hut
Live @ the Hut saw the silly season in, in a suitably silly way with lots of great acts - poetry, singing, dancing aliens and a naughty panto. The hut looked fantastic thanks to Pauline and Jenny's flair with decorations and Maddy Parr, the Christmas fairy emcee'd the night with style and grace. Great night had by all. Looking forward to 2012
October Live @ the Hut
'Best performance night yet,' commented one live @ the hut regular. The hut was transformed last night. Pauline's savvy purchase of 6 new round tables set the scene for an intimate night of fun, laughter and great performance. Candle lit tables meant people could set themselves up with their wine and nibbles. We had Scott Cullen performing slam poetry, Paul Cavanagh, Encanto's latest recruit, singing a capella, Paddy singing the rousing 'Anthem' and Bridget, Frankie, Pauline and Carolyn performing some funny ensemble pieces. James Cooper surprised us with a suitably haunting ghost poem, and Sean Hyson cracked us up with his rendition of Dave Barry's satire on what men know about women - not much it turns out. Duncan Wilkes and Steve Leadbetter, along with Scott Cullen, were hilarious in their performance of a Tenacious D classic. Maddy Parr wowed us with an a capella solo.
The night was a great one. Next Live @ the Hut will be the first friday in December and it will be Christmas themed so get out your jingle balls.

September Live @ The Hut
We're back baby! Did we ever really go anywhere?? This month's live @ the hut was another great night out. Sorry you missed it. You didn't? Oh, so you obviously heard about Pauline and Carolyn's satirical news Livenews Live. Then there was the ever gorgeous Paddy Martin singing his parody of Cat's in the Cradle and a beautiful song by Janice Ian. Lois Phillip's 'Strange Old Woman' reading was hysterical - a clever take on the wrinkled woman who seems to take over in later years and steals all the chocolate. Benita sang and accompanied herself on the piano. She is brilliant at both and it was wonderful to listen to her singing -Jars of Hearts. The big number of the night was the WORLD PREMIERE of Angela Clarke's Much Ado About Floods a side-splitting satire of local, state and federal politics with a standout performance from Frankie Donaldson as the PM. Pauline Clyne's satrical nursery rhymes were wicked, hysterical and deliciously biting - and it was great to see her abundant use of wigs. An exciting first for Live @ the Hut was a theatresports session which saw members of the audience volunteering for some impro - and very funny they were too.

Live @ the Hut in May
There was no international, national, state or local upstaging of our event this month. The hut was pumping with original satire, parodies, crooners, monolgues and poems and another riotous act from Goondiwindi's own Red Hot Mama's. It was wonderful to hear from not one but two members of the Gale clan as Hamish's Mum delighted us with her singing. Pauline recited two sassy Langston Hughe's poems. Lois Phillips gave a gorgeous recital of a poem about wearing purple and growing old disgracefully. Paddy Martin sang deliciously as always. Benita Klowss arose from the fug of new Mummyhood to wow the audience with an original parody she wrote herself, to the tune of A Whole New World, giving pause for thought about all the incredible goings on in the last 12 months. Angela Clarke performed a thoughtful monologue about a woman attending her ex's art exhibition. The Red Hiot Mama's performed an hysterical piece about the perils of gym membership. Pauline and Carolyn Stuart gave their Live News Live satire and Hamish Gale strung the whole night along as 'the farmer who (does not) want a wife.' Audience members were treated to goat milking and hoof clipping sessions.

2011 Live @ The Hut: Live @ the Hut in March

Live @ The Hut is off and running! This month saw 2011's Live @ The hut off to a great start. With sailor Hamish at the helm how could anything go wrong? Although he did spend an inordinate amount of time swabbing his poop deck! Livenews Live kicked the evening off with what will hopefully be a regular piece of satire. The exciting premier of Angela Clarke's new play, 'What comes after coffee?' went over brilliantly, with audiences loving the witty banter and contemporary voices, Lois Phillip's poem on a mother's dilemma over the birds and the bees talk was outstanding, as was Maddy Parr's impromptu solo, 'Wouldn't it be loverly?' Pauline and Hamish's take on the pc battle at Trafalgar was glorious but we won't mention Hamish's 'blown seal' joke. Does that count as a mention?? Jenny Jackson proved herself again with a gorgeous solo, about her 'Poirsernality' as well as a fantastic poem she wrote and performed about life as a Grandmother. There were lots of impromptu acts which was great but it would be great to have a full line-up too so get yourself in there or out there as the case may be!
Live @ The Hut in November
November's Live @ The Hut was the last for 2010 and what a year it's been. Last night showed what a great success Live @ The Hut has become. A place for all to feel welcome. There were 12 acts and lots of new faces performing and new acts - original limericks by James Cooper, the debut performance of The Red Hot Mamas, live guitar acts and lots of divine singing. As always the atmosphere was cosy and the audience were up for anything, which is just as well!
Big thankyou to Hamish Gale for his consistently brilliant and quick witted hosting in various guises - Gupter, Elvis, Michael J, Achmed, Percy Pirate and the delivery guy with his big package.
And a huuuuuge thankyou to Pauline Clyne whose idea it all was in the first place. Bravo!!

Live @ The Hut in September
Ah hhrrrr me hearties. September's live @ the hut was a swash-buckling, cannon-blasting night of music, laughter and love. Hamish Gale led the lively audience through a great mix of acts, including a couple of great instrumental guitar numbers from Alan Clyne, another beautiful song from the talented Helen Russel, and a capella 'Summertime' from Gundy's favourite tenor, Paddy Martin, two devilish poems from Live @ the Hut founder, Pauline Clyne, another great ditty from a bikini clad live @ the hut chorus, a great parody on Les Mis from Benita Klowss, Performing Arts President, as well as a special song for her husband. There were three anniversaries this week and Petra Cranney kicked off the night of public displays of affection with a brilliant recital of a poem for her hubby, Mark. Another cheeky little number about Lola and her pianissimo, from the ever-naughty, Jenny Jackson.
It was a full house and a fantastic night. Don't miss the next one, October 29th, 7pm at the hut.

Live @ the Hut in August
The performance space has been tweaked into an intimate, inviting stage. Audience and performers all agreed the new arrangement is brilliant. Hamish Gale mc'd as the dead terrorist with poppers and brilliant improvised comedy, followed by the live @ the hut chorus and their free undies give-away. New artist Simon Lwin wowed the audience this month with an incredible version of New York, New York - and received a standing ovation for it. Benita Klowss moved many to tears with a beautiful rendition of God Speed Little Man, by the Dixie Chicks. Paddy Martin and Lois Phillips sang a fun duet and Paddy performed Angels by Sarah McLaughlin, in his voice of spun gold. Sandy Wolfenden gave a fantastic recital of a wonderful piece of poetry about love in the 21st century (maybe she'll read some of her own next??) and Carolyn Stuart sang Victoria Wood's Ballad of Freda and Barry.
It would be great to see some instrumentalists so if you can fiddle, twang or blow - come on along!

Live @ The Hut in JulyPlaymates performed an hysterical short play, Jan Verney and David Winter performed the world premier performance of Log Off. Benita Klowss sang beautifully, sister Jess danced magnificently and Casey Simpson and Sam Brown aka Storm in a Teacup, performed a gorgeous number too. Live @ the Hut is fast becoming an integral part of the performing arts scene in Goondiwindi. Register now.

The Inaugural Live @ The Hut - 2010
The hut was packed to the rafters. Live @ The Hut gave people the chance to enjoy live performance in a relaxed atmosphere. The ghost of Michael Jackson, (aka Hamish Gale) appeared to oversee what was a relaxed low pressure evening. There was a mixed bag of acts from the sublime to the ridiculous. En Canto got the night off to a wonderful start with their version of Man In the Mirror. Playmates performed Medea as you've never seen it before, with Jenny Au Flair Jackson as the crazed heroine, along with her newly lobotomised ex-husband, Jason (Ross Enright). The audience marvelled at Helen Russell's beautiful rendition of Stormy Weather and Jess Wolfenden's dance was unreal. The Live @ The Hut Chorus gave the audience pause for thought with their Greek Choral version of Billie Jean, a sad treatise on celebrity misadventure. Pauline Clyne urged us to 'Eat a Cheese and Pickle Sandwich' in a convincing lyric about the benefits of food over sex. Paddy Martin sang a dire warning on ethnic food and En Canto rounded the night off with a Samba number.
The Live @ The Hut committee are to be congratulated, especially Pauline Clyne whose vision it was. 'Let's get the word out there,' she said. The night is open to any act, any one, any time.
If five people can get up and read the lyrics of Michael Jackson to titters and guffaws from the audience, anything goes.
The beauty and thrill of Live @ The Hut is it is a never to be repeated goodie bag of live performance. Miss it at your peril.
